About Stroud FC and its History

Our History

Stroud FC was formed in 2006 by Steve Woodward, Paul Matthews, Alison Peyton, Rob Griffiths and Tony Whiting with an ambitious aim. it was to provide an opportunity for boys to play football at a higher level than Sunday league football and to carry on beyond the 16 year-old cut off that applies to local leagues.  With the aid and good name of Shortwood United behind us, we were able to achieve this goal and we entered our teams into the Midland Premier and the South West Counties League.

We started with 3 teams, under 12s, 15s and 18s.  Each team has achieved far greater success than we hoped for, playing against teams like Worcester City, Tamworth, Derby, Newport County, Cardiff, Exter City and the like.  In 2006, the 18s more than held their own in the South West Counties League, reaching the final of the County Cup.

In less than a year from its inception, the club achieved Charter Standard status with the FA, boasting FA qualified coaches covering the full spectrum from Level 1 to UEFA A.  All coaches of the club have a minimum of Level 1, Emergency First Aid. Child Protection Certificates and have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

For the 2008-2009, the Club introduced a senior adult team that participated in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League and another youth team to play in the Midiland Junior Premier League.  This gives the club both entry and exit levels to all members.

In the 2010-2011 Season, the club will have 5 teams: under 13s, under 15s, under 16s, under 18s and First Team Seniors (and Reserves). The junior teams all play in the Midland Junior Premier League. The U18s play in the Midland Flootlit League. The senior team has been promoted to the first division of the Northern Senior League and the reserves will play in the Cirencester League.
